With faith in the Resurrection of Jesus, we offer our prayers for Reverend Francis G. Geigel, who entered eternal life today, April 29, 2010, at the age of 98.
Father Geigel was born February 6, 1912 in Saint Nazianz, Wisconsin to Joseph M. and Anna (Milhaupt) Geigel. He attended St. Francis Seminary, and was ordained at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay, on May 28, 1938 by Bishop Paul P. Rhode.
Father Geigel’s first appointment was as Assistant at the Chancery Office and Secretary to Bishop Rhode, with additional duties as Chaplain of the Civilian Conservation Corps Camps at Mountain, Wabeno and Lakewood on weekends. He then served as Assistant at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Green Bay (1939), and at Sacred Heart Parish, Oshkosh (1941). In 1942 he began serving as a Chaplain in the United States Army and continued serving for several years. He was appointed Pastor of St. Anthony Parish, Marinette in 1962, Pastor of St. Ambrose Parish, Wabeno (1967), and Pastor of St. Joan of Arc Parish, Goodman (1977). Father retired January 31, 1979.
Father is survived by one sister, Sister Loretta Jo Geigel, SSSF, of Campbellsport, Wisconsin.
Reception of the body by the Regional Vicar, Father Joseph Dorner, will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 3, 2010 at St. Ambrose Church, Wabeno. Visitation will follow until the Parish Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Liturgy.
The Funeral Liturgy, expressing our faith and our hope in the promised glory of the Lord’s Resurrection, will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, with Bishop David L. Ricken as celebrant and Bishop Robert F. Morneau as homilist. Burial will be at St. Ambrose Parish Cemetery, Wabeno.
