Lafferty, age 90, of Newald, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010 at NuRoc Community Healthcare Center under the care of Ministry Homecare Hospice. She was born in Newald (at Kursten siding) on July 28, 1919 the daughter of the late Edson and Katherine (Davis) Cunningham. Edna Schmelling walked her to school for her first day and was also in the nursing home with her. Verla loved fishing, hunting, upholstering furniture, cooking, baking and writing. The most important thing to her was spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family. Verla is survived by her husband, Jack, Newald Daughters: Lawana (Phillip “Sonny”) Sheldon, Rhinelander LaLonnie Lafferty, Rhinelander Sons: Darrel (Irene) Lafferty, Rhinelander Lanny (Linda) Lafferty, Laona Donald (Diane) Lafferty, Alto, MI Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren Brother: Keith Cunningham, Cour’D Alene, ID A gathering of family and friends was held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Crandon. Memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Newald, at a later date. Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Crandon assisted the family with the arrangements.
