Brownell, age 89, of Wisconsin Rapids formerly of Crandon, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Edgewater Nursing Home in Port Edwards; where she had spent the last 6 weeks. She was born in Crandon on January 20, 1921 the daughter of John C. and Mathilda (Peterson) Gretzinger. Ruth attended Range Line School. She married Roy M. Brownell on January 13, 1940 in McGregor, Iowa; he preceded her in death on May 2, 1992. They made their home in Kaukauna until 1984 when they retired to Crandon. In March of 2005, due to failing health Ruth moved to Wisconsin Rapids to live with her son and daughter-in-law. Ruth loved nature and enjoyed many years at their cottage in Hiles. She loved being with her family; especially with her great-grandchildren. Ruth loved her grand-dog, Daisy, who kept an eye on her. She was a member of the VFW and the St. Luke’s Methodist Church. Ruth will be sadly missed by her family. Ruth is survived by Son: Roy G. (Mary) Brownell, Wisconsin Rapids Daughter: Irene Schommer, Kaukauna Granddaughter: Lisa (Jim) Garnett Grandsons: Mark Schommer and Tim Curtis Great-granddaughters: Angie, Zandria, Tabitha and Victoria Great-great-grandson: Liam Brothers: Frank (Marge) Gretzinger, Shawano William Gretzinger, Waukesha Sister-in-law: Marcella Gretzinger, Spring, TX She is preceded in death by her parents; John and Mathilda, husband; Roy, daughter; Eileen Paterson, son-in-law; David Schommer, grandson; Brian Peterson, sisters; Dorothy, Ann, Mathilda and Delores and brothers; Roy, Earl and John. Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 27 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, Crandon. Funeral Service followed at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Marvin Singh officiated. Interment was at the Crandon Lakeside Cemetery. Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Crandon assisted the family with arrangements.
